This year saw West Side Wreckers take to the track for the first time in years. Entering into the United Roller Derby Playoffs as a division 2 team thanks to community fundraising efforts.
Wreckers were enthusiastic about being able to demonstrate their inclusive sporting culture of the league with URDP being a mixed-gender tournament – meaning anyone from West Side Derby Dollz having passed skill testing and training requirements were eligible to enter the team. While we did field a team, unfortunately all games did end on a loss – if by a narrow margin in the first two games on Saturday.
Many skaters on both days found the track very slippery and difficult to play at their best. However it was an event enjoyed by the team and we feel we developed strongly from the event. West Side Wreckers came 8th out of 10th in Division 2.
West Side Wreckers would like to thank all the teams that made the effort to come to the event – from seemingly every corner of Australia. Kingston City Rollers – the host and organising league, and every last volunteer and official that dedicated time to putting the event together.
