Westside is a not for profit, volunteer run organisation that works actively to make participation in roller derby accessible and open to all. We are excited to be the first league in Melbourne to give junior skaters the chance to take part in this exciting sport.
What is Roller Derby?
Roller derby is one of the world’s fastest growing sports. It is played on quad roller skates and in two teams of five skaters on the track at a time. It involves agility, speed, strength and strategy. At the adult competition level, it is a highly skilled, full contact sport. At a junior recreational level, emphasis is on foundation skating skills, team work, fitness and fun, with games being played according to non-contact, modified rules.
Classes for Junior Derby are open to anyone from ages 6-16 of all abilities.
Our coaches are experienced skaters from Westside Derby Dollz and all have completed the Skate Victoria Coaching Accreditation Course, have Working With Children Checks and First Aid certification.
Training Location and Times
Classes are held Thursdays 5:30-7:00pm during school terms. Doors open at 5.15pm. Please arrive early to put your gear and skates on.

Roller derby is a great sport for developing your own identity and we celebrate everyone’s right to choose how they present themselves to the world.
Junior Derby is about providing a safe environment where children and young people can develop their physical abilities.
To support our focus on skills, fitness and playing the game, we ask that Junior Derby participants wear suitable sports wear (ie. shorts and t-shirts) to training. Opaque tights or leggings (such as lycra or compression wear) under shorts, tracksuit pants, singlets and tank tops (covering the midriff) are also acceptable.
Hot pants, booty shorts or fishnet stockings are not suitable attire for Junior Derby.
Coaches reserve the right to request participants leave the track (or public event) and return in appropriate attire if they are in breach of the dress code.
